How many ducks do you see in this artwork?

Some children counted over 50 ducks in this artwork.

Story behind painting:

In January, 2004, a dear friend who worked at the Houston Arboretum had mentioned a bird carnival event for the kids that the Arboretum was scheduling for February. She was wondering if there was anything I could paint based on ducks or bird migrations to display for the event.

For awhile I was drawing a blank. I visited various parks and photographed a few ducks. Then, a couple of weeks before the event the idea struck me. I had been contemplating a picture of a puddle at Bay Area Park, home to various ducks . Based on the time constraints I decided to do a pencil drawing

I was up until 4am sketching furiously. Ducks began to appear in my drawing everywhere I looked. I finished the sketch just in time to get notecards made and to frame the original picture to display at the event.

The watermarks on the file above are not on the notecards or Limited Edition Giclee's.
